ShapeABOUT NOSH

The Nosh Founding Story

Nosh Factory Café was a concept born out of a drive to gain consistency in retail Food while coping with the lack of skill availability in Food outlets. Originally the Nosh kitchen was a small testing kitchen for products manufactured in our holding company “The Flavour Lab” who manufactures Mayonnaise, Sauces and spice solutions.

RYAN HODGE

Products where cooked in the kitchen and the food was originally donated to charity or simply discarded. The surrounding businesses would come and ask us what was cooking as the aromas would disperse from our extraction chimney. We decided to offer the meals we were testing as a set menu daily. The demand grew for these products, so we decided to get some benches outside in the parking lot and sold food out of the office window in the kitchen with a petty cash box.

Realising there was a real need for fresh food in the industrial area, we released a simple menu encompassing all the things we train our customers on. From Southern Fried chicken, Mozambican grilled chicken, Burgers, Old Fashioned Battered Hake, gourmet salads to Street Food.

Where did we go from there?

Our litmus test was to be able to make delicious freshly prepared food with unskilled staff working on our simple batch cooking system. It worked, and Nosh started serving a minimum of 200 people daily.

When we finally where able to build a new home for The Flavour Lab, we decided to Build Nosh as a proper restaurant with quality coffee. As we have developed a wide scope of clientele from Blue collar factory workers and White collar, we needed a place everyone feels comfortable, so we decided to build an uncomplicated interior with recycled materials like barrels and doors and plumbing pipes and old road signs. This combined with raw screeded floors, a garden outdoor area amongst our herbs allowed everyone to feel comfortable.

At Nosh we love freshness and change so you are bound to experience something new and tasty.
